Accidents happen in the blink of an eye. Have you experienced a close call? Maybe you have escaped by the ‘skin of your teeth’ and avoided damages or, worse yet, injury? For some, minor accidents can be a reminder to be more careful the next time you do a similar thing. For others, an accident can be a life-changing event.
Like mine.
Webster’s dictionary defines the word accident as a sudden event (such as a crash) that is not planned or intended and that causes damage or injury.
Lying along the hood of the tractor, my legs trapped between the bar of the loader and the front bumper of the grain truck, I lay there for five hours. Pinned. No one came. My situation seemed impossible to get out of, but God reached out His hand and rescued me.
But God. He turned darkness into light and orchestrated his healing through the love and prayers of others and the skill of doctors and health care workers. Love demonstrated in countless ways that uplifted, aided, and healed us.
In his book, “But God…: Two words at the Heart of the Gospel,” author Casey Lute writes, “This is a book about two words. Concerning them, the late James Montgomery Boice wrote, ‘May I put it quite simply? If you understand those two words–‘but God’–they will save your soul. If you recall them daily and live by them, they will transform your life completely.”
They have transformed ours.
Footnote: We have received many responses from those who have read our book. We are humbled by the comments and filled with joy that the overriding purpose of writing our story is being realized. God is receiving the honor and glory that He is due. It is our offering to Him. Psalm 96: 3 NIV “Declare his glory among the nations, he marvelous deeds among all the peoples.”
